This balun system allows installers to take advantage of Cat5 (or higher) cable for making long runs of S-Video. Baluns essentially convert the signal to send it across a Cat5 cable. On the opposite end the balun decodes the signal and converts it back to S-Video.
S-Video Cable > Balun > Cat5 Cable > Balun > S-Video Cable
To use this system you would install one balun at the S-Video source by connecting the outputs of the S-Video source to the input of the balun. Then connect a Cat5 (or higher) cable to the back of the balun. On the receiving end you would install the other balun by connecting to the same Cat5 cable. Then connect the S-Video output from the balun to the input of the device that you want to connect the S-Video to.
Note: In rare circumstances video quality can be distorted due to a ground loop on your video signal source. This can be corrected by installing a ground loop isolator.
